Some of my best thinking occurs during hikes in the woods when I am free to reflect and can simply "be." The mountains surrounding Santa Fe and Taos, New Mexico are home to some of my favorite trails. Even on an overcast day, walks among the trees are uplifting. I never tire of the autumn colors that seem to float in every direction creating a visual chaos that I wade through in awe.Andrea Guayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10286490916127971475noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5546293126927032266.post-56834064208722595312013-09-13T07:00:00.000-07:002013-09-13T07:00:08.730-07:00Along Lake Cuomo, Italy<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>

While in the lakes region of Italy, I was fascinated by the contradictions in spacial perception. There was activity bursting from the pathways in each lakeside town. Walking tours revealed layer upon layer of culture behind the colorful facades. Yet from the lake, everything was hidden behind the shadows.Andrea Guayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10286490916127971475noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5546293126927032266.post-78619327642906646052013-09-11T07:00:00.000-07:002013-09-11T07:00:06.810-07:00Lake Cuomo, Italy<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The end of the school year always means travelling to the east coast to family and incredible comfort zones. This piece was done from a memory of Portsmouth Harbor where we spend time on the ocean kayaking, clam digging, and of course, eating lots of lobster.Andrea Guayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10286490916127971475noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5546293126927032266.post-25713722132845761582013-06-27T10:15:00.001-07:002013-06-27T10:15:03.773-07:00Chama River Basin, NM<div><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEJJMtzmWKi6lPx0HbtOHygn_ixoH_PAPf1-R_Ckdc02CmOkAY-ppFiIehdxhzC4sco8JfXxNcp5S8IX8Qe39iU4A7O461D0V7l3PUTOMQAKIrWY4gnEni9ZpnuEemae1IphwpHNSzhw/s640/blogger-image--1668996334.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEJJMtzmWKi6lPx0HbtOHygn_ixoH_PAPf1-R_Ckdc02CmOkAY-ppFiIehdxhzC4sco8JfXxNcp5S8IX8Qe39iU4A7O461D0V7l3PUTOMQAKIrWY4gnEni9ZpnuEemae1IphwpHNSzhw/s640/blogger-image--1668996334.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Chama cradle, oil on Japanese paper, 8" x 10.5"</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Springtime on the Chama is breathtaking. My girls asked me why I paint trees so much instead of dogs or zebras or something really cool...<br />
Its not that I don't like animals, its just that the light that comes through the trees (as in my last post) and the vibrant colors of fall (this post) are so compelling I can't help myself. Walks in the woods, no matter where I am remind me of my childhood when the grandiose structure of the trees was the only thing creating parameters in our fantasy worlds. The light and colors just made our journeys into deep imagination that much more magical.Andrea Guayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10286490916127971475noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5546293126927032266.post-17359560167744054982013-06-18T19:30:00.000-07:002013-06-18T19:30:20.820-07:00New England Birch<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The southwest has always inspired me to paint landscapes. In my memories of the places I've observed, there is always an undeniably strong emotion attached to the experience of place that remains long after the visit.Andrea Guayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10286490916127971475noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5546293126927032266.post-7548800763479003202013-02-19T12:17:00.000-08:002013-03-07T11:19:27.938-08:00Sage Brush<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>

This was a piece I painted several years ago in the mountains near Taos, NM. I recently found it in the studio and polished it up a bit. Some days, it is nice to spend time reflecting about my process and where I am heading.Andrea Guayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10286490916127971475noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5546293126927032266.post-74666017168320791172013-02-16T21:41:00.001-08:002013-03-07T11:16:45.264-08:00Abiquiu No.2<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>

There is nothing I like better to paint than moments captured in New Mexico. Abiquiu, is remote, quaint, and full of hidden treasures. </div>
